zgazime - vićemošoćebit

Released August 22nd, 2022, Vićemošoćebit was a DIY bedroom noise rock record from Croatia by Zgazime. It didn’t have many new ideas, but surprisingly had an extremely fascinating array of sounds that made it completely worthwhile.

From the opening notes of I Dream of Noise, it’s clear the production phenomenal. Being recorded in a bedroom studio is not a drawback; there’s so much life brimming from these recordings, it’s fascinating to re-listen to and discover new frequencies. No matter how outlandish the track title (I’m looking at you, Beaver Emoji), each soundscape is brimming with personality and vibrant with clarity, thanks to the clever mixing and layering. The first half of the album is feverish, brilliant so. Towards the end, melancholia in its brackish form is leavened by the acoustic jollies of Scenes Before the End Credits, before the slow crescendo of Two Clouds scrambles it again. The track-listing is smooth, and well balanced overall.

Much like the most noteworthy shoegaze, it’s limited in the composition department. Thankfully, the album spends more time exploring noise than repeating its choruses, like a good boy. For instance, Lizards in the Sun follows a fairly repetitive, simple melody, but layers so many guitars it’s easy to get lost into the more surreal sounds. No real complaints on this one; any fan of the genre ought to check it out.
