Dr Clyde – Get On

Dr Clyde is a modern solo artist from Norwich, UK, who fuses alternative rock and blues. His music is akin to Alabama Shakes, with an extendable amount of edge to suite. Whereas the previously mentioned band is austere in efforts of being accessible, Dr Clyde is far more successfully at being experimental and playful while sticking in the confinement of his genre. Get On, released July 3rd, 2020, comes with a huge recommendation to any fan of the genre.

Two tracks on Get On completely outshine the rest. Ballad Of Marvin Heemeyer detours in its vocal department to a charming effect, while also maintaining a more serious, pleasing blues track. Don’t Be Silly could almost be considered post-hardcore, emitting the same atmospheres of Slint’s Spiderland (1991). The remaining tracks are standard alternative rock flair, though all perfectly well executed and undeniably enjoyable. Throughout these songs, the most impressive element is the vox, both extendable in range and vibrant in execution. The vocalist is seriously talented and makes even the most conventional moments notable.

A solo artist can get bonus points on Deko.fm for being a solo artist, though truth to be told, the album would most likely receive a similar rating if it were composed by a band. The fact it’s a solo effort makes it so much more impressive. It’s not original, but it’s brilliantly executed, and a fine introduction to the artist. Here’s hoping next time his release is a little more unique, though.
