Lucid Liars - A Place for Everything...

Lucid Liars are an alternative indie rock band from Inverness, UK. Their works take inspiration from similar genres, such as shoegaze and noise rock, and the band soars quite well when they utilise these components. Despite lacking a coherent theme in line with their debut, the album was a remarkable improvement over Happy to Be Here.

Don't Panic (Now Panic) is incredibly vanilla in the songwriting department, but its energy is admirable, as well as its execution. Eyes on You is a true delight, both jammy in the instrumental department and sing-along worthy in the vocal. Each section is distinct and memorable. Null Nimhe takes a more subdue approach and excels thanks to its flush instrumentals. The passion throughout is extendable. Furthermore, the instrumental outro is divine. Daydreaming (...And Everything You Want) is one of Lucid Liars best songs; simultaneously atmospheric and absorbing, the song soars thanks to its hazy soundscape and clear songwriting. The winning mix continues on Grey, and moreso on the album’s best and final track, In the House, In a Heartbeat. The closer’s contrast to the preceding tracks is stark and memorable. Its build-up is seriously impressive, as is its fluid outro. Sadly, not all tracks are equal in weighting. While ....And You're Wrong features some truly impressive guitar work, its songwriting is brazenly conventional. The same could be said for Anodyne.

Stronger songwriting and a noticeable increase in production qualities has elevated Lucid Liars to the next tier on Deko.fm, though it’s still held back by a lack of innovation. One can’t deny it does what it does tremendously well, though. It’s as solid as rock gets.
