Anadûnê - The Days Of Our Forefathers

Concept albums can often be tacky, though if there’s heart fuelling the project, it can somehow miraculously work. Such is the case on The Days Of Our Forefathers, by Anadûnê. Released July 24th, 2021, the album beautifully depicted the events of JRR Tolkien's The Silmarillion.

This couldn’t have been done without the wonderful producer pulling the strings behind the curtains. The orchestrion sounds wonderfully lush and full of life. The melodies are simple, yet impactful, as are the arrangements impeccable. Moreover, the album is short enough that its shtick never gets old; it’s a rare case of me wishing it were longer. Nonetheless, the trumpets that dominate the second half of the closer Glaurung are a strong finisher.

If Peter Jackson were to ever depict The Silmarillion on screen, Anadûnê should definitely compose the soundtrack. The Days Of Our Forefathers is so well composed, one can ignore the lack of “lack of innovation” mentioned in this review. Give it a listen on your next D&D night, nerd.
