It may have a long album name and a respectful album cover, but make no mistake; A Bit More Nebulous Than Your Average Joe… is another boring ambient album to plug the scene. Released April 1st, 2022 by Wings Of An Angel, the album doesn’t contain a single memorable moment within it’s boring hour-long run-time.
Considering the piece is one track long, let’s break the progression down to prove a point. An astute ambient rock connoisseur should easily be able to close his eyes upon reading each line and accurately hear what this album may sound like with precision.
1. Open with a dull arrange of synths
2. Progress to a slightly moodier arrangement of the same synths
3. Degrade into some field recordings, possibly with a hint of rain
4. Strip back the synths and focus on drones more, before reintroducing them in a peak-like fashion
5. Drones
6. Gradually reintroduce the synths before phasing them out
There you go; I just saved you one hour. Don’t get me wrong; Wings of An Angel’s presentation is spectacular. His artwork divine, as well as his production proficient. It seems to be that’s all one needs to do in order to succeed within the ambient/dark ambient scene. Kudos to Wings of an Angel for his success thus far, but this is boring soundtrack music packaged for posers in the underground scene.
