Ken.dle – Clutter

Ken.dle is an avid dilettante from Houston, Texas. Despite Ken.dle’s wide range of talents, the majority of his EP Clutter is rap and should be classified as such.

Synopsis opens the album with fervour and substance. Ken.dle’s delivery is equally stylistic and non-chalant, as is through the rest of the album. The guest features on OST and Day Break are sadly lacking in comparison to Ken.dle’s fine delivery, in which he owns the first half of both. Moreover, both songs are much too repetitive and reliant on their loops. Roach boasts an intricate, beautiful blend of competing melodies and maniacal beats. The atmosphere is complex and captivating, while the samples are both capricious and resplendent. Much could be said about Intermission. Sadly, the final track Gutter is sloppy and underdeveloped, despite being raw and creative.

Composition-wise, Ken.dle delivers quite a creative set of tracks. Unfortunately, the overall mastering drags it down significantly; it was clear this EP was made in a short period of time. On the flip side, it is wholly unique. While Ken.dle may be eager to expand his portfolio rapidly, he would benefit greatly from taking his time to polish and expand upon it.

Thankfully, compared to Enter a Title, Clutter’s compositions are much more refined and quite delightful. Furthermore, Ken.dle has advanced and polished his piano skills, resulting in some truly charming moments throughout the album. Sadly, Ken.dle is over-reliant on loops and hip-hop conventions, restricting him from being truly progressive in his singer-songwriting abilities. His success is inexorable if he can break conventions further without losing his creative and passionate touch.
