Ryan Deranged – Filth Apocalypse
Ryan Deranged is a producer from Fresno, California, who specialises in electronica, hip-hip, deathtrap and industrial music. Focusing on atmosphere over hefty compositions; Ryan Deranged produces unique and enjoyable horror-core on Filth Apocalypse.
While it may not have the strongest introductory couple of songs, Filth Apocalypse maintains excellent atmosphere between Hazmat and Purge. Furthermore, the twisted spiral of horror oozes and becomes more demented as the track listing progresses; as if it were further degrading into an abyss of pure madness. Among the highlights are Heretic and Ghost – both vile and excellently produced songs that should have been longer. While the production is certainly just as tight in the remaining three songs, the compositions are straightforward and lacking.
Throughout the album, the vocals are a mixed bag. Sometimes the overly distorted vocals work magic, such as during the brilliantly abhorrent track Ghost. During Purge, while the production may be straight forward, the flow sounds surprisingly tight. Sometimes the vocals work against the track, though; such as in Departure - a track with a masterful atmosphere that faulters due to the restrictive vocals. Perhaps this is due to the lack of range in the vocal delivery, or moreover an unrefined delivery.
Whichever the case is, Ryan Deranged’s vocals are undeniably unique. As a result, they are incredibly captivating. Filth Apocalypse mostly faulters due to an inconsistent track listing; perhaps due to the large array of producers throughout the track listing. Moreover, each song is relatively short and consequently sound much too like an experiment. The album does get a lot right, though; half the track listing would have made for a masterful EP. Nevertheless, I strongly encourage Ryan Deranged to keep refining his skills, because if he polishes his unique take on trap, he will stand out prominently in the 2020’s.
