0 0 0 – Atlas
0 0 0 is an electronic music producer from the Netherlands that specialises in dreary, luscious soundscapes. Boasting an immaculate cover, 0 0 0’s first EP, Atlas, is an honourable first attempt in the electronica scene.
The highlight of the album is Girls, an expressive electronic piece that is incredibly fascinating beeline from start to finish. The vocals and brilliant electronica are in a constant state of quandary as the track masterfully progresses. The opening track, Clean, is also quite noteworthy; an interesting open experimental piece devolves into an interesting, welcoming landscape. If only there were more tracks like these.
Sadly, the rest of the EP is forgettable. Both ATLAS and Solitude are direct Klaus Schulze imitators, while елейсон and ...---… are nothing short of Pharmakon rip-offs. While the technical design and mixing are impeccable, there’s scarcely any new ideas.
During its highs, 0 0 0 is at her finest – Girls certainly makes the EP worth a listen through. As a portrayal of electronica, Atlas accomplishes what it sets out to do reasonably well. Let’s hope 0 0 0 aims higher next time.
