Epiglottis - Songs of Praise

Epiglottis is an ambient producer from Kraków, Poland with an extensively large body of work.

The album begins with one of its strongest tracks, I Have Nothing. Elegant percussion paves the way for howling, ethereal vocals amidst an otherworldly soundscape. The track is of high quality and so dense it could have easily sat on a Have a Nice Life album. Let Her Love Come is an incredibly gentle track which shifts between sections naturally. Continuing the trend of subdue ambience is Wake Before Dawn, though the track barely distinguishes itself from other songs within the genre. Today I stand sounds like an amalgamation of the tracks that preceded and sounds quite lovely, though stale in comparison. The former two tracks are sadly filler and heavily drag the album down. Abrasive guitars elegantly lead into The Air of Mine; a beautiful venture into iridescent soundscapes with finesse. It ends the album marvellously and is a true highlight.

There are some brilliant moments throughout Songs of Praise; though it can’t help but feel like an experimental pitstop in Epiglottis’ catalogue. There’s sadly not enough to differentiate these tracks from other works in the genre.
