Epiglottis - White Owl Speaks

Epiglottis is an ambient producer from Kraków, Poland with an extensively large body of work.

There are many standouts in the track listing. Caressing Touch of Red Haired Maidens is divine – the soft eloquent piano is a treat to listen to among the degrading soundscape. Moon Slumber is exceptionally moody; the candescent production is elegantly accompanied by humble strumming and delightful synths. Journey of Aegithalos Caudatus (ft. Frederick St. Peter) blends impressive ambience and shifting landscapes. There are some tepid tracks in comparison, though; White Owl Speaks is rather bland, Several Small Fragments of Snow is overly long, and Dreaming of Trains is as substandard as ambient gets.

The problem with the Tales of the White Owl is many tracks repeat ideas of previous songs in a deceitful manner. Moreover, it falls in a trap many ambient works fall into; it’s much too self-indulgent at times. To say these tracks could have been condensed is disingenuous; “” is 4-hours long and rather enduring throughout. Moreover, the tracks could have relied less on the pads and more on the instrumentals – the elements that breathe life into the music.
