LSD and the Search for God – Heaven Is a Place

Following their dazzling self-titled debut, LSD and the Search for God disappeared for quite some time, only to return with Heaven Is a Place on January 15, 2016th. The album was met with a mixed reception, despite the quality being very similar to their debut. While it may not have reached the heights of their debut, it still boasted some impressive soundscapes.

Heaven is an enjoyable opener. It’s not innovative, but it boasts an exceptional wall of noise throughout that is both expressive and progressive. The vocals are far stronger on (I Don't Think That We Should) Take It Slow than they ever were on the debut. The shoegaze elements are grand, though they’re mixed in too cleanly, as they are throughout the rest of the record. Without You is admirably long and boasts some rockin’ riffs; but the climax is uneventful and unspectacular, making the length feel wasted. Additionally, the second last song, Elizabeth, is extremely filler-esque.

The guitars throughout Heaven Is A Place are incredible; it’s a shame in sacrifice of bolstering the vocals, the guitars were flattened. Odd production choices are the weakest aspects of the album, followed by the straightforward songwriting. It goes without saying the tones are still thoroughly enjoyable; here’s hoping LSD and the Search for God can return from another hiatus with a grander, braver record.
