Plum Wooer – Big Bend

Plum Wooer, an Austin-based solo artist from Texas, USA, released Big Bend on March 23rd, 2022. Unlike the more marketable Plume Ruiner, his latest EP was more subdue and heartfelt.

The album opens with light strumming and gentle arps. Eventually, the song fades and introduces light foley among a standard, naturistic terrain. In the sections following are light 80s synths, modulated keys, choirs, ducks, pianos, field recordings and seemingly everything Plum Wooer found in his path while recording the EP. Lastly, there’s a cheery, cheesy harmonious section towards the end which admirably inserts some personality to the second half of the record.

Overall, Big Bend is a short, yet enjoyable effort from Plum Wooer. The suites all complement each other, and flow gracefully. Furthermore, the album is short and easily digestible, hardly sounding repetitive as it constantly flows from one idea to the next. It may not score largely in the innovation department, but it sure makes up for it in the enjoyability one.
