Eyes Lit- Erotomechanics

Erotomechanics by Eyes Lit is an experimental breakcore album spliced with glitch, IDM, and hardcore. The result is amateur, but inventive. Released May 16th, 2022, the album may have been inconsistent, though undeniably impressive.

Umbran Climax’s breakcore elements are straightforward, though its energy is high and progression admirable. Braindead implements industrial into its Death Grips-like maniacal soundscape; its synths are both unique and memorable, albeit conflicting to the main melody. Sleeves takes more risks in the percussive department, and it pays off. The janky nature of the synths perfectly suits the feverish beats. Off The Pill, 801xU, Radio Bangkok and Ravedeath all contain unique synthetics and perfectly suited beats. On the flip side, Ribs, YN2Endro and Ravedeath are plain boring, despite their cool sound design. This is partly due to the straightforward songwriting, over-relying on pop. Furthermore, the last third of the album is quite a drag. Had the artist kept the quality of the first half throughout, it would have received a much higher rating. The exception is easily the closer Erotomechanics (砂塵ノ記憶) – a track worth sticking round to the end to hear. Simple, yet memorable.

Despite its flaws, Erotomechanics still comes with a solid recommendation. It’s clearly not the work of a proficient producer, though an undeniably passionate and well-versed composer. With more practice, and less reliance on pop, Eyes Lit could make a splash in the scene.
