DEEP//FAKE - S//T

Dream pop and alternative rock is a tired mix. S//T by DEEP//FAKE, released June 24, 2022, is another boring addition.

To its benefit, it’s well executed. The vocals on Tired with Leather are quite memorable, but the track itself is as conventional as it gets. Synthetics throughout the album aren’t unique, but very enjoyable, such as on the fine closer Hedgehog. It almost sounds like the synthetics were powered by AA batteries in a good way. Sadly, the remaining songs are less than spectacular. Project 2501 is a dull New Order/Joy Division knock-off with lame Kraftwork vocals. Child of Light is slightly more enjoyable, albeit a typical pop-punk knockoff. Gray Matters is even better, though once again, nothing new.

Despite some neat synthetic work, S//T is overall very unmemorable. In future, the artist ought to be less concerned with replicating the past, and more on reinventing the future.
