Abstrakt Alias - The End

Abstrakt Alias released the surprisingly enjoyable The End on May 17, 2022. Not without its flaws, the album exceeded at stunning soundscapes and respectably well written compositions. Regardless of its final score, the LP comes with a huge recommendation.

The album opens with a gorgeous jazz-driven hip-hop soundscape. The progression is stunning, and exactly what an underground hip-hop tape needs to standout in the underground scene. The first half of the album is just as solid. Punching Post Malone In the Face Type Beat has an irresistible beat. The abstract soundscape on ISAWMYDEMONSTHENIDIPPED is gorgeous. Funking Up the Fries’s instrumentals are playful and, you guessed it, deliciously funky. Sadly, the second half of the album is far less inventive. G on Lock and Snoop Just RT'd My Blunt sound like typical crushed-trap tripe. Misanthrope is a dull verse rapped over a tired beat, similarly on The World Ends With You. Lastly, the vocalist is plain. His delivery is breathy, and often lacking punch. There’s an inflection burrowed deep; if the vocalist can improve on this category in future, the remaining foundation is solid enough to support him.

Unfortunately, these two components (a dull second half and a dull vocalist) are too great of an issue to ignore, dragging the quality of the tape down. With more practice, Abstrakt Alias will undoubtedly surpass this release, and I can’t wait till he does.
