Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack - I Don't Know What You're Worried About

Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack, led by Tim de Reuse, is an incredibly refreshing solo act from Montreal, Québec. His works on I Don't Know What You're Worried About blend the realms of krautrock, IDM, folk, pop and glitch; the resulting amalgamation is as stunning as it is full of life. Like the stunning Fiery Furnaces, Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack rocks the preacher-vocalist sermon approach while intersecting frenzied guitar riffs and psychoanalytical blues rock. While currently not as active in the underground scene as his used to be, his legacy will always remain through the magnificent pieces he left behind.

The album opens with the edgy and exciting Snarl Hideout. Reuse’s beats are as refreshing as his synthetics are engaging. His style on the opener is a mix of Dan Deacon and Of Montreal in the best possible way. No fun is an engaging expansion on LCD Soundsystem’s pop melodies; the song is as rocking as it is articulate. Jealous Machine takes Tune Yards cubic sympathies and creatively expands upon it, resulting in an impactful and meaty experience. U.S. RTE 380-W borrows the aesthetics of Kraftwerk, without relying on their simple song-writing structures. The song boasts an impressive progression and constantly switches the electronics up, as well as the percussion. The off-key percussion and unexpected tempo makes Buddy truly standout, with its fervent soundscape and maniacal keys, the song increasingly engages the listener as it spirals out of control. 380-E (...never far enough) incorporates delicate and iridescent synthetic work, as it gorgeously crescendos into an emotionally fulfilling climax. You're a Riot teases the listener with its subtle and marvellous progression and ends the album elegantly. The krautrock elements interweave through the chaotic IDM elements so fluently, it’s a wonder how no one ever thought to pair them before.

What may be most pleasantly surprising about on I Don't Know What You're Worried About is it’s uplifting and inspiring energy, without every truly relying on the conventions of pop. While Reuse’s works may be accessible, they are profoundly deep and magnificently layered. There may be a lot of repetition, but the album is rich with imagination and structured immaculantly. It comes with a high recommendation for any fan of any genre.
