Passenger of Shit – 2

It’s unclear how Passenger of Shit has gained so much popularity over the decades. One could say it’s from the artist’s famous single Staple Tapeworms On My Penis, though I’d argue it’s more to do with his impressive output and inspiring consistency. Released January 1st, 2001, 2 unleashed a torrent of hell onto the underground scene.

STICK DICK IN CONCRETE opens the album with style. Not only is it notably explosive, but admirably progressive. ARTIFICIAL VAGINA is repetitive, though not without its notable sections. CRUSH YOUR ENEMY’s comical samples balance out the ferocious soundscape. The raw, chaotic aggressive is remarkably balanced by its obscene humour. At times, it inescapably drenches the listener in dread; ROTTING VAGINA, for instance, succeeds at making one uncomfortable. The range is also quite admirable, such as the glitch hip-hop sections that breathe plenty of life into RIP YA TITS OFF. Not everything is top quality; something one might expect from an amateur artist in the pre-mainstream-internet era. There’s a solid focus on noise during RANCID SHIT WANK RMX1, though its drum progression becomes sour towards the end. Moreover, by BRUTALISE MY PENIS, the formula on 2 becomes stale. Lastly, EGG SIZE BRAIN shows at the time, Passenger of Shit may have been better suited for shorter suites.

Those in the underground scene should take note from Passenger of Shit. His work ethic and character should be an inspiration to all. 2 is an album that’s designed to make you uncomfortable. It exceeds terrifically well at doing so. The album wholly relies on its obscene samples and the lewd titles, though; beyond their inclusion, it’s basic breakcore. The sound design itself is very interesting - if only it were less repetitive. Nonetheless, 2 is an important record in the underground scene.
