WIMWHAG – Demo

WIMWHAG, an alternative bedroom pop band from California, USA, debuted with their mixtape Demo on July 19th, 2020. Despite its short length, it leaves quite an impression.

Where Did She Go is a smooth opener, though relies too heavily on its Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Jonze, 2004) samples. Cheesy 90s Love Song sounds almost more like a cheesy 80’s Prince song, with its own unique, explosive jammy outro. Had the album been filled with more moments as such, it’s be easier to recommend. The outro, coca-cola (cocaine song), is most impressive. The melody is smooth, and the track ends with an impressive, rockin’ finale.

Demo’s only flaw is it doesn’t offer anything new, though what is does display is incredibly vastly. Secondly, the vocals are lacking depth, though this may be more of a mixing issue. Furthermore, despite the lack of innovation, its smooth aesthetic carries it proficiently. Considering how talented the artists are, one should be excited to hear what’s next from WIMWHAG. Here’s hoping the wait till their major debut isn’t a long one.
