Sun is Poison - i thought i left you in eden

Sun is Poison, first name Will, is a solo artist from Ballston Spa, New York. His latest project, i thought i left you in eden, released January 27, 2022, was a forgettable collection of previously explored ideas.

The drum kit is a welcomed addition, especially on every light on earth. The song has great energy, mixing and atmosphere, though very standard and predictable songwriting. Swallowed sword is one of SIP’s strongest songs; each section is distinctly composed with a delectable inclusion of fuzzy, electric guitars. Funny (intro) features Sun is Poison’s easily identifiable guitar tones/patterns, with additional fuzz to a mesmerising effect. Bones like drums blends its twangy guitars, keys and Midwest-emo to a delightful effect. Despite its highs, there are far too many forgettable tracks to recommend the album, such as long pressed pillow kiss, perished on the whale's tongue (jonah in hell), Javelin, and i dreamt i became a beacon.

i thought i left you in eden is not a bad album, it just doesn’t offer anything new over previous Sun is Poison releases. It’s enjoyable, and contains some of his best songs, though overall the project sounds like a retread. It’s never a good sign when an artist’s catalogue starts to blend together; predictability can diminish enjoyability. One can only hope the artist reinvents their sound on the next output.
