Madach Ren - Suite No. 1: De las alturas del Cielo

There’s nothing more disappointing in the underground scene than a clearly competent composer without a unique style. Suite No. 1: De las alturas del Cielo, released January 5, 2022 by Madach Ren, is a clear example of such a phenomena. While the album is nearly composed, and precisely so, it lacks flavour. The result is relaxingd, though non-memorable.

Nonetheless, there are many good qualities to be found. Firstly, the production is elegant. The electronic synths are so warm you’d easily believe they were real. The padwork is gorgeously mixed, though the air is thin for the most part. This is a common element throughout the album; it’s mostly a rehash of everything that inspired it. Not only are the soundscapes boring and inspired, but so are the compositions themselves. For instance, there’s a repetitive classical piano composition throughout Sección III that’s as progressive as a protestor at an LGBT rally. The bells on Sección IV sound copy pasted.

The only saving grace is the remarkable closer, Suite No. 1: De las alturas del cielo (1 track), which admirably takes up half of the album’s running time. The suite runs at a commendable length, though sadly like the previous tracks, it fluffs around too much and would have been more impactful if it were tigher. Additionally, it repeats ideas heard earlier in the track-listing.

The underground scene is overflowing with a lack of talent making innovative material, and an overwhelming amount of talent wasting their time on dribble. Here’s hoping one day Madach Ren will utilise his potential.
