Simian Cyborg – Ideating

The influences are clear as day on Ideating. Released by Simian Cyborg on the 3rd of November, 2021; the album sounded like a direct call-back to 90’s alternative rock a la the Smashing Pumpkins and Eels.

Red rock, blue diamond is a genuinely sweet opener with background vocals from Luna Holland. From: anonymous rocks the minor chords, paired with Cyborg’s lower register, much like Mark Langerhan. While it may not be unique, han xoloitzquintle is sincere and thoroughly enjoyable. The post-hardcore elements on you can call me randy [savage] make it a short, yet satisfying finale.

Individually, these songs are all fine. Moreover, they’re heartfelt and well executed. Sadly, they don’t have much to say sonically; each piece is a retread of the past. Undeniably entertaining, yet wholly disappointing. Nonetheless, the production, the writing and delivery are all top-notch; if only the artist made more original pieces with his excellent skills.
