Slave Beaver Revolt – Ten More Years

Slave Beaver Revolt is an alternative punk-rock suite from Melbourne, Australia. Unlike other punk-revival bands in the scene, Slave Beaver Revolt excel due to their admirable production, tight execution, and extensive use of electronic synth work. Their earlier work, however, showcases none of their recent strengths. With the tenth anniversary of Ten More Years, Slave Beaver Revolt have showcased how far they’ve progressed as a band since.

That’s not to say it’s all bad; there are some noteworthy moments on the EP. Hyperactive Child (Dead Kennedys) makes clear who Beaver’s influences are and replicates them quite well for such a short song. Like it’s counterparts, The St. Paddy's Day Massacre is lacking identity, but makes up for it with its tight execution and commendable pacing. Lastly, Epoch I stands on its own, boasting a solid atmosphere and a genuine emotional output. Sadly, the remaining songs are unmemorable. Freud and the Terror Train III barely has anything to offer side from its fun interplay between the instrumentation and the samples, and The Ted Kennedy Confessional is far too formulaic.

Despite how well the songs are executed, Slave Beaver Revolt are missing an indistinguishable feature on Ten More Years, an area they have since improved upon. The album is worth listening to, if only to see how the artist have progressed over the years; otherwise, you’re better off listening to their later releases.
