Sweet Hart – EP1

Sweet Hart is an experimental noise rock producer from Sydney, Australia. His debut, EP1, masterfully utilises its complex soundscapes while joyfully incorporating elements of rock, jazz and noise.

Redshift’s miraculous saxophones are woefully marred by the adjacent stream of violinic consciousness. Slow Wave is an incredibly lush acoustic chamber of enigmatic note placement and ethnic seduction, made even sweeter by its plush wall of noise. Open Up isn’t afraid to get loud, and joyfully rocks its senile soundscape. slows down the pace of the album, introducing otherworldly guitars that transcend to higher streams of thought. While the guitars drag on for a bit too long, and the first half is spatially baron; the second half of the song is gorgeously melodic and rather captivating. F. Dilettante closes the album with an enthralling, spiritual tour de force of harrowing synths and peart acoustic instrumentation. While it may sound strange at times, its payoff is well executed.

Few tracks in post-rock have sounded this ethereal, abrasive and luxurious simultaneously. The album’s largest flaw is its short length; an album of larger portions would satisfy so much more. Here’s hoping Sweet Hart is capable of completing the rest of his discography this beautifully.
