Madach Ren - 3 viñetas, I

Madach Ren released 3 viñetas, I on May 5, 2021. Not much is known about the artist.

There’s very little to differentiate Viñeta 1, 2 & 3 bar the mood of each track. In combining darkwave aesthetics with cardboard midis and synths, the lack of acoustics hurts Madach Ren’s production. When the acoustic piano finally graces Viñeta 3, it stands out well, though it is marred by an overly muddy soundscape. The track almost achieves a unique persona as it blends dissonant bells, harmonious keys, and a droning hypnotic soundscape, though it can’t help but sound like a poor man’s Harold Budd. Much could be said about the entire EP.

Upon a dedicated listen of 3 viñetas, I, it’s apparent there’s a well-trained classical composer behind these works, though like cm rv’s stale new-wave aesthetics, Madach Ren’s dark ambient is not enough to differentiate him from the oversaturated market. None of the material present on the EP is bad, it’s just painfully unoriginal. Here’s hoping the producer and composer will contribute something more substantial to the underground music scene in future.
