0 0 0 – Sacrifice
0 0 0 is an electronic music producer from the Netherlands that specialises in dreary, luscious soundscapes. Her latest EP production-wise is a significant improvement on her previous work, though is disappointingly short and sadly lacking variety.
The Rat opens the EP in a grandiose manner; its progression and use of space is quite captivating, though sadly the song somewhat fizzles out with a lack of direction and a conventional arp. The accompanying soundscapes are consistently lush and varied, though, as is the track very well polished. The drum and bass elements of the title track Sacrifice are rather conventional, and the accompanying arp is relatively bland and repetitive. The final track, Limbo, is a step in the right direction; the song continuously progresses further into ominous and menacing soundscapes at such an elegant pace; it’s a shame, like the opener, it somewhat fizzles out. One could easily assume 0 0 0 was clueless how to progress her pieces further or develop a suitable climax.
There’s no denying 0 0 0 is capable of producing marvellous soundscapes; however, the artist is far too concerned with style over substance. These tracks are perfectly suited for a spotify playlist, though they lack variation, which makes subsequent listens rather boring. The foundation is incredibly strong, but needs fleshing out. Here’s hoping 0 0 0 will spend more time experimenting with compositions in future.
