QQQ – August CT 2020

QQQ is an artist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While it may have been recorded live, August CT 2020 is well articulated and methodically beautifully arranged.

What separates QQQ from similar industrial synth punk is his admirable progression and unqiue implementation of modular and analogue. 180b.uniform and 182.exist both creatively keep the intensity high, joyfully accompanied by pseudo-psychedelic personalities akin to the demented harmonies of Chrome’s Half-Machine Lip Moves. 150b.li ght contains delightful pulsating basses that both thrill and invigorate, with parts of these elements riveting through the closer, 152.solopoly. At times, the album resorts to basic chord progressions and melodic structures. The album tends to exceed more at the faster paced sections. Perhaps in a future release, QQQ could address this issue; but what would be far more pleasing is a longer experience altogether; August CT 2020 is disappointedly short.

August CT 2020’s album cover is perfectly reflective of the material it represents; much of the album is gritty and humble. Had the album not simply been a live album, but a coherent mixtape expanded upon and attentively refined, it could have landed a bigger impact. While it excellently display’s the artist’s skills in the opening tracks, the remaining album sounds rushed in comparison. Here’s hoping QQQ’s next release is more fleshed out.
