Nikola Tomašević - Binary Instruction Tracks

Nikola Tomašević is an avant-garde producer from Zagreb, Croatia. His work, Binary Instruction Tracks, is an extraordinary test to human patience and a quintessential example of how not to make electronica based on algorithms.

Unlike most of my reviews, there will not be a breakdown of tracks here. There are no highlights – only different frequencies to differentiate between the discordant, cacophonous sound. Furthermore, each song’s track number is perhaps the only variable that gives each track personality. Each track sounds like music made by robots that have no conceptualisation of harmony or emotions. To break down each track would require more effort than the artist’s attempt behind the songs, which is underserving. More importantly, my remaining neurons are required to repair the damage received upon completing the album in one sitting. If you’re somehow interested in hearing this album, drag your ear canals through a mile of broken glass; it will replicate the experience without causing as much long-term, irreversible damage.

As Tomašević claims on Bandcamp, “All tracks created with self-made C++ programs. No post-editing.” To be fair, had any post-editing been done by a competent producer, there’d be nothing left on this tape.

Insufferable
