Blue heron , holy ghost – Donnie

Donnie, released by blue heron , holy ghost on June 6th, 2022. A solo effort; the EP was an easy-going, albeit forgettable experience.

The album benefits from an overwhelming flow of fuzz that’s present from _____ through to wrap me in dilustel. Considering the album is a solo output makes songs that blend multiple instrumentals, such as 120 days, quite admirable. While the songs are easy to listen to, they’re overly simple. Dead roots, for example, is one idea repeated stale for 5 minutes. Instrumental tracks such as these remind the listener they’re listening to a Duster clone. Case in point are the guitar tones that tie Bruised together; have been done to death.

This underlines the primary issue surrounding Donnie; it lacks personality. Sometimes, no matter how enjoyable an experience is; if it’s lacking uniqueness, it ends ultimately forgettable. Thankfully, there’s enough charm moments throughout Donnie to leave an impression; Stadust, for instance, is quite enjoyable. Sadly, it’s difficult to recommend over more inventive albums in the scene.
