Half-Baked Human – Atomizer

Specialising in footwork, Half-Baked Human is a new and upcoming producer on Soundcloud who is starting to make a name for himself. Whereas some footwork artists tend to over-indulge, Half-Baked Human boasts great condensed-ideas and shows that the footwork genre still has a lot to offer.

While the opener, Wrap, doesn’t have the strongest recording equipment, it is exceptionally well composed. While the sounds are all stereotypical of your madlib-esque rap, the flow is charismatic and unique. Bfc is poorly mixed, but playful and energetic. Compared to the stunning opener, it’s much too conventional, though. Bell addresses this issue with its glitch-like composition; the experimentation adds great dynamics and charm to the track. DOA, on the contrary, is sadly filler. Thankfully Yuppie ends the album is a glamorous fashion, beautifully implementing keys amidst his frantic framework.

There are some excellent ideas in this EP, though it feels much too short. Furthermore, despite the excellent personality of Half-Baked Human, it feels somewhat constrained. In future releases if Half-Baked were to embrace the weird experimental nature side of his work (in line with the opening track), he’d be capable of tracking something truly incredible.
