Sp00ky2 - Subitism

Subitism is a delightful surprise. Released June 11, 2022, Sp00ky2 channelled Four Tet in a pleasant, respectful manner, while impishly being spirited à la Impossible Nothing.

The variation throughout Subitism is key to its enjoyability. The album opens with light synthetics before detouring into a deep, bassy soundscape on Think: Perfect Day. Master of Hazard Mitigating is far more comical in nature, incorporating orchestic elements in a jovial manner amidst is creative, playful progression. The same beautiful elements can be heard on the more subdue Xander. Sample use is well utilised and never abused. The peak of creativity can be observed on STARBURST (Feat. Colemak); a demented, fast paced trance song with many unique elements; if only it blended the electronica. Classical elements can be heard on Axolotl Handshake, though the piece is overall quite plain compared to the brilliance of the surrounding tracks. The vocal samples add plenty of personality to tracks such as Moldavite & Diesel and Chewbacca with Punda.

Overall, Subitism is amicably varied and marvellously executed. There are some weaker moments in the album, though they’re balanced well by the standout tracks. Each song exhibits a unique surprise, resulting in a memorable experience. Worth checking out for sure.
