Gremlens – Life in Hell

Bad

Gremlens are a difficult band to recommend, because no matter what words I include with it on Google (Bandcamp, Gremlens are Dead., Gremlens from Space, Gremlens the band) nothing ever comes up. Perhaps this is the crux of naming your band something so generic. Thankfully, the music itself is far from it. To date, previous Gremlens’ releases have been notable, though their latest EP Life in Hell was a sad misstep.

BUZZ SAW wastes half of its runtime looping a sample before it blatantly rips Royal Trux. If that wasn’t a poor enough decision on its own, the second track Loch is a mere 2 minutes of telephone silence. Lastly, there are some interesting textures on the final track Lean Woman Lucifer, though if the first track is anything to go off by, it’s clear the artist was heavily relying on the sample work of another artist.

There’s very little to say about Life in Hell, aside from that I’m disappointed. It’s clear these were abandoned ideas scrapped towards a small EP. What a waste of an otherwise cool album cover. These tracks should have stayed in the trash.
