DJ Dubbi – Volume 7.0 – MEGADUBB

Notorious more for his online personality than his music, DJ Dubbi is an avid poster on 4chan /shill/ threads and a composer of dubstep. His music is bland and tasteless, yet his comments are the life and soul of pre-20’s 4chan. His passion for trolling is marvellous and fervent; if only it translated to his music.

Volume 7.0 opens with New Goliath, a mediocre over-long self-indulgent mess. There are some neat ideas and great balance in the mix, though the song is stretched out so excessively it loses its charm very early in the track. Dystopianoids of Jupiter boasts an impressive dub, though homes an incredibly baron atmosphere filled with wasted protentional. WobbleBass Romance is an experimental soundscape used to shill his own name while containing very little substance. Electro Mortar is not without its slick vocal samples; the rapper here carries the song fluently. Furthermore, the second half of the track is quite enjoyable, though ends tepidly. Dubbi experiments with mood in Blassé, a unique ambient piece that makes me wish he experimented more with this nature. It has a graceful progression and some interesting ideas, albeit stretched out much too long with too little to differentiate sections. Moreover, the second half of the track is very boring. DJ Dubbi is incapable of innovating, only stealing the sounds from those who inspired him; Bass Mood is the quintessential epitome of this concept – a bland song that once again takes any opportunity to shill his own name. Man Maketh Fire and Transform continue the trend in a tiresome manner – there are very little ideas introduced to the table and so little to differentiate the first half of the album. Electro Mortar [Remix] is significantly worse than its original counterpart, relying on the most obnoxious dubstep tropes imaginable. 4D Ghosts [Remix] is fairly engaging, though comes much too late after an LP filled to the brim with filler

DJ Dubbi’s music would heavily benefit from being condensed. His music is like a slinky that has stretched out so far it no longer has that “bounce.” His adept skill and passion are promising, though though he suffers from quality control, instead focusing on releasing as many tracks as he can. Sadly, due to this strategy, no one has the time to listen to his extensive catalogue.

Considering DJ Dubbi’s temperament, it is likely he will do everything in his anonymous power to destroy my name. I look forward to it, because his responses are hilarious.
