De Blimp – De Blimp Covers 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran

De Blimp is a band that needs no introduction. Their quirky personalities seamlessly translate well to their creative output, as do their spirit and musical literacy. Ed Sheeran, a comedy album composed entirely of Youtube comments from an Ed Sheeran video, is an enjoyable yet cretinous detour in their discography.

There are two tracks on the EP; an official recording of De Blimp Covers 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran and one of the original speed. The official audio track is a modified slowed-down version of the original recording by 33%. The result is an obnoxious and doltish test of patience. Thankfully, while the 20-minute version is still sloppy and a little inconsistent, it’s the far better listening experience overall. The EP would have greatly benefited from taking the best parts of either speeds and splicing them together.

Even though De Blimp Covers 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran is unrefined and sonically unspectacular, the vocal delivery is perhaps some of De Blimp’s finest. The non-sensical word salad of random comments are hilariously narrated by both vocalists of De Blimp, whom use sporadic shifts in tone and impeccable zany impersonations to make for one thoroughly entertaining listening experience. The selection of comments are quirky and incredibly funny just to read, yet alone to hear out loud.

Overall, the EP is poorly done, yet undeniably fun. While I have no desire to listen to De Blimp Covers 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran ever again, I did thoroughly enjoy my experience with it. Put it in the it’s-so-bad-it’s-good category and thank me later.
