Circuit Circuit - Circuit Circuit - EP

Circuit Circuit released the fantastic Circuit Circuit – EP on May 25, 2021. Seamlessly blending glitch and punk, the album fucking rocked.

Circuit Circuit EP is a rare album that completely soars in the underground scene, despite not sounding entirely unique. This mostly comes down to two components; the inventive songwriting which constantly switches it up, and the insane energy throughout. There is a fair bit of innovation through the glitch infusion, though the album doesn’t explore it profoundly enough. Nonetheless, it’s an amazing step in the right direction; one can only hope the band fuses it further in future. The closest it comes to full infusion is during the System of a Down-inspired Pray finale. Regardless, any time the composition switches the acoustics with a glitchy-detour, it works wonders. As for the songs, they’re all consistently great. The best may be Solve, which frequently splices in small electronic eccentricities amongst it barrage of guitars and brilliant disco bridge.

Circuit Circuit is punk at its best. Raw, expressive and without a moment to waste. Here’s hoping they can replicate the magic on their next release. I wouldn’t even care if it wasn’t a full-fledged release; the EP is perfectly digestible. It’d be interesting to see if they can tackle a more sombre piece, though. Highly, highly recommended.
