Mitchell Gonzalez - Finite Sunshine of a Spotted Mind

Hailing from Miami, FL, Mitchell Gonzalez is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who incorporates elements from indie, folk, pop and lo-fi into easily digestible and wholesomely accessible music. His debut, Finite Sunshine of a Spotted Mind, does a solid job of displaying his talents.

Sadly, the range Gonzalez displays is rather limited, as many of the songs on display focus on very simple chord progressions. While She Loves Me and Catholic Girl are relatively straightforward and unimaginative, Type of Love proves Gonzalez is clearly capable of tackling more complex and expansive compositions. Nevertheless, much of the songwriting is painstakingly simple and missing a lot of potential. While they work in favour for the mood of each song, such as the gorgeous Waiting for the Day to Come, they sadly offer very little compared to the canon of rock music.

These collections of songs certainly display Gonzalez’s beautiful talents, though they simultaneously represent how restrictive his range is. It’s undeniable how catchy and well executed these songs are, though they are far too basic to recommend over other indie artists. With such an admirable voice and cheery selection of melodies, Gonzalez is certainly capable of great success if he sticks to his craft, but he is capable of so much more.
