Porcelain State – Current Destruction

Current Destruction is an enjoyable front-loaded experience that is sadly a bit too inconsistent. On the positive side, Going back from the tunnel would be pointless andWearing My Darling on Your Sleeve are both delightful pieces that open the album with poise and are easy to recommend. The closer, Rabbit Lacks a Home, is undeniably cute; if only the electronic noise was further developed. One could say the creativity peaks with Tales of Angelic Reason; a myriad of distinct sections, transitioning with purposefulness and sophistication, though unfortunately the track and many others are plagued by a poor execution in melody. Furthermore, the compositions themselves are extremely radio-safe; beyond the initial spectacle there is little variation in tempo and personality. As a result, the album sadly loses steam beyond its promising first third.

Thankfully, the remaining album is an easy listen; the production values are remarkably top notch and are heightened by the technical skill of somebody so underground. The compositions are restrictive only in the sense they pull from very little inspiration; without the regurgitation of the previous canon of music, Porcelain State cannot create anything to differentiation him/herself from the current market. One can hope they use talent in future to conjure something a little more diverse in range and distinct in flavour.
