A Magnificent Cold – Saudade

Sebastian Crugley, a musician from Buenos Aires, Argentina, has incredible range. While Uncontrolled Dreams of Exploding Skies (by project Alldrig) is an exhausting imitation of progressive metal, Saudade in contrast is an exceptionally jaunt, melancholic experiment.

Crugley masters his expressive output over two songs: Saudade I & II. Both songs are oozing with atmosphere and demonstrate exceptional range from such a talented instrumentalist. The sombre mood perfectly encapsulates the dejected emotion Uncontrolled Dreams failed to instil. The progression is natural and evocable. The album is such a beautiful length – it’s less than ten minutes and is most definitely something everyone on /mu/ should experience.

While the genre once again is not innovative, it’s raw and beautiful. The production is top tier, and something you would expect from Studio Ghibli film. One can only hope he blends his talents into something truly remarkable; these pieces would have worked flawlessly in contrast to the heavy pieces of Alldrig. If this EP is a taste of what’s to come, I’m very excited.
