John Deaf - Narration Of Delf Pt. 1

John Deaf - Narration Of Delf Pt. 1John Deaf is an American Producer and Rapper from New York, New York. Equiped with an exquisite flow, he’s one of the strongest rappers in the underground scene. Whereas Deaf’s previous works incorporated elements of glitch, hyperpop and modern day electronica, Deaf’s latest works ditches all these styles in favour of retreading old hip-hop tropes.

Everytime, All the Time is a fairly standard opener, with neither an advanced instrumentation nor a  complex flow. Deaf’s delivery is incredibly strong on No Pressure, a simple yet jammy song, bolstered by its swift deliveries and exuberant saxophones. Little Boy (La La La) contains some of his best lyrcism and flow, and marks the peak of the album. All This Blood, like the opener, doesn’t offer any fresh ideas or unique characteristic.

Narration Of Delf Pt. 1 is an impeccable album, impeded by lack of new ideas. The centre two singles are incredibly strong, though can’t hold the EP on their own. Furthermore, gone is Deaf’s innovative long, complex song structures, in lieu for simpler rap in the vein of early 2000’s sample-reliant hip-hop. Thankfully, the singles are tight, the production clean and the vocal’s consistently tight; it’s worth checking out the singles on Soundcloud. Here’s hoping Deaf’s next release takes more risks.
