Kleetlefleesh - ACCO 40

It’s fascinating to think how many artists have released their works onto Bandcamp, unbeknownst to the world.

Kleetlefleesh is an artist from Seattle, Washington. Despite being a tribute to the artist’s great grandmother, his debut ACCO 40 is completely devoid of lyrics; instead, fleetlefleesh’s minimalistic and transcendental approach to folk reaches an emotional high amidst its baron yet down-to-Earth recording environment. At times its undeniably awkward, and there are sadly moments that suddenly cut off, as if only to hide the amateurish execution. Nevertheless, the piece as a whole progresses at a marvellous pace, and beautiful encapsulates the listener within its warm and inviting atmosphere. Furthermore, there are certain moments that borderline on avant-garde which alone make a run-through worth it. My only complaint would be geared towards the last third of the album, which is sadly not as strong as the first two thirds, and sadly far too one-note.

ACCO 40 is brimming with so much soul, so much life, and a great ordeal of passion; it only falls into the a less-than-deserving category because it’s lacking its own identity. Perhaps with more risk-taking, Kleetlefleesh will be able to make some waves among the over-saturated scene of low-fi indie folk. Regardless, the gorgeous soundscapes are stunning enough to recommend as is.
