Blue Hole – Songs of Isolation

Songs of Isolation was a singer-songwriter bedroom-folk/rock album released on October 1st, 2021 by Blue Hole. The album was inconsistent, though showcased some delightful surprises.

The opening two songs, SLATE and TENTS, are irresistible. The incorporation of electronic beats breathes plenty of life into tracks such as AMBULANCE and BIG CRUMBLE. The best song on the album is PIGGY, for it continuously builds upon its layers in a stunning manner. Unfortunately, there are some lesser tracks that drag the experience down, such as TOO HIGH, EYES and WAITING; tracks such as these are too simple for their own good, and seem to put the lyrics first before the music.

Despite the fact the album doesn’t rank highly due to a lack of innovation, it still comes with a solid recommendation. While the production could use some work, it’s hardly a hindrance. The incorporation of synthetics is simply bliss, as is the tremendous atmosphere and heartfelt delivery. Furthermore, each composition is distinct and memorable, regardless of their flaws. What’s most impressive, however, is the sincerity of it all. It’d be interesting to see what Blue Hole does next.
