Glacial Anatomy - Mist Theory

Glacial Anatomy is dark arctic ambience influenced by the study, research, and exploration of the Arctic/Antarctic zones, polar regions, glaciers, ice sheets, and extraterrestrial regions. Unbeknownst to the artist, his personal insights give no edge to his music, as it sounds the same as 99% of all dark ambient music. Released June 10th, 2022, the LP did very little to standout.

The album is comprised of six untitled tracks numbered sequentially. Untitled 1 is an empty dark ambient piece that opens the album. Untitled 2’s orchestrated elements are bold and gorgeous, yet uninventive. Untitled 3 is very enjoyable; there’s a sense of submersion while pulsating synths stutter in the soundscape. A truly mesmerising experience. The style flows directly into Untitled 4, which is more of the same and fizzles out lazily. The final two songs are boring air similar to the first two tracks, as well as the majority of ambient music.

Anyone can work a pad to make dark ambient; though only an innovative composed stand out. The centre two tracks are phenomenal, though not enough to make up for the surrounding fluff. Glacial Anatomy hasn’t quite found his magic ingredient yet. Resultingly, the album is gratifying, yet forgettable.
