Jackson Marion - Expressions

J Marion !Y1HStCImeU has become somewhat of a notorious figure in the underground community due to his tasteless trolling and ravishing ego. One would think someone so passionate and traversed in the frequency theory could produce something other than hot garbage in the hertz spectrum, yet somehow Marion has debuted with an over-long, self-indulgent mess. Moreover, Expressions is so devoid of life and introspection; one could easily assume his works are fabricated as a means to troll a community.

—Δ almost tricks one into believing this is a good album. What differentiates the track from its substandard peers is its thoughtful progression; each section is distinct and structured with a vision. Unfortunately, the majority of the album suffers from a lack of good qualities; Heitenpold has very little progression, panes of glass (œ) continuously tests one’s patience, and anything. everywhere. is as lazy as noise composition gets. [µ] perceptions might have been an interesting track had it not been slowed down by 800%, and 3/24/87 adds as much to the canon of noise-rock as a Happy Meal adds to fine-dining. The album is almost saved by the demonic polyphonic nothing. nowhere., though it’s too little, too late.

Part of Expressions’ problem is J Marion is unfamiliar with the concept of “less is more;” too much of the album tries squeezing in every frequency of the spectrum into a disconnected and unco-ordinated mess. While the sounds themselves may be appealing, they are far too experimental in nature and incoherent in composition. Had Marion put the same amount of time and energy he has put in to ruining his reputation online on Expressions, he might had been capable of producing a decent project.
