Alligator Orange – Punkin

Alligator Orange are a punk rock band from La Crosse, Wisconsin. On the back of their new album, punkin, the band is described as "a punk rock pop-punk rock math rock band." That may not be a formal music genre description, but it's pretty awesome. The record is a smash hit of indie rock. It's the perfect soundtrack for autumn, and hopefully it will inspire some to get on their bikes and ride along. It's a little weird to be listening to your local punk rock band when you're by yourself in your apartment, but I know I'm the only one who's ever gone to college so I know that's normal for many people.

The production on punkin is sublime, and perfectly compliments the laid-back vibe present throughout the four tracks. “Pumpkin” is the soundtrack for riding your bike while painting your nails. You’ll feel connected to your old home town. “The Bluffs” is a reflection of a night where you were too exhausted to do any of the things you loved doing. You woke up and vowed never to do that again. The simple melody and simplistic lyrics make the song pop. No deep meaning is intended, and we completely understand. We’re not losers, and the song will only make you feel more normal.

There isn't really a good analogy to draw about their music. They're rooted in dream pop, but there's also plenty of other stuff going on. The songs are catchy. As someone who identifies as a dream pop fan, there's nothing on this record that makes me feel like I'm going to sleep, but there's something about the number of times I've listened to it, though, that has made me want to stay awake.
