STAV - Plastic Cocoon

Stav Achai is a pianist, composer and arranger from Tel Aviv, Israel. Her works blend classical, jazz and rock. While her debut Plastic Cocoon is rather short, its irresistible pieces are incredibly captivating.

A double bass works gorgeously as a blueprint on Nils, a divine blend of classical and jazz. The album is not afraid to rock either, such is the case during Pam Pam. The interplay between the electric guitar and drums on this track are simultaneously free and tight at the same time, as is their dynamic interchange tonally thoroughly engaing. Dugia continues these themes and ideas well, with elegance and grace. The climax continuously teases and wonderfully delights. Thank You 2 introduces a gorgeous electronica component to the work, as if it were a taste of the future. It works faultlessly well; here’s hoping STAV return to it in future.

Plastic Cocoon is only held back by its short tracklisting. The pieces are tightly executed, as are their progressions equally well thought-out. Regardless of whether you’re a classical, jazz or rock fan, there’s elements of something for everyone in Plastic Cocoon. Highly recommended.
