Neopoliten - Neapolitan

Bad

Unlike the genre-blending experimental Jerovine, Neapolitan is a disappointing step back for Neopoliten. Blending the domains of noise rock, drone, and improv-rock, Neopoliten wastes his fanbases’ time once again with another failed experiment that offers very little to the canon of rock music.

If there’s anything positive that can be said for Neapolitan, it’s its inviting grungy base, best articulated within Pink. The main limitation to Neo’s work, unlike the magnificent Shapeshifter Assembly, is the poor improvisation and lack of direction. The blending of drone and post rock fails to reach the heights of Hash Jar Tempo or Earth, nor does its aesthetic offer anything of value. One cannot help assume that Neopoliten had heard these domains for the first time, and without refinement, attempted to replicate them. At least Jerovine tried to be different.

The album is the equivalent of an amateurish producer pressing down a pad key and calling himself an artist. To its credit, White nails its atmosphere down pat (the colours are titled as such to reflect their sound), but it’s still far too much fluff. Worst yet, the drumming here may be the sloppiest worst they’ve ever been throughout the entire record. If you can get through the snoozefest that is the first two songs, you will be rewarded with a serving of brown substance at the end (Brown), undeniably sourced from the rear end of a monkey.

What may be most insulting about Neopoliten’s “self-title” is its existence itself. Unfortunately, Neopoliten insists on wasting his audience’s time with release after release; the number of albums he’s released this year has been astounding, and simply a chore to get through. One can only hope the artist focuses more on quality than quantity in future.
