Notnow000 – q

Notnow000 is an experiment derivative IDM producer from New York, New York. Using AI to generate and arrange IDM, the results are similar to the countless producers who predated him that generated IDM in the same manner. Following his debut M5 – M8, Nownow000 continues the trend of dissonant IDM while also incorporating elements of dnb and trap, resulting in a more focused and overall satisfying experience.

Hi incorporates many neat elements into its progression, seamlessly switching between fuzzy, damp beats and glitchy, erratic synthetics. Htiasgan also contains many neat ideas, yet its composition is nothing electronic fans haven’t heard for decades. While the synthetics isolated on mo3m2 are rather substandard, the blending of these elements is impressively jovial; the unconventional accompanying electronica goes a long way to interject personality. Lastly, AUOSUOSUOS sounds more like a bland experiment than a fully-fledged track, though it does fade the album out stylistically.

Combined, these pieces are interesting to observe, but there’s a lack of nuance for one to be “absorbed” within its soundscape. Perhaps it’s a lack of a polished production, as the compositions themselves are quite strong, or perhaps Nownow000’s current works are mere building blocks in their current state. Nonetheless, the jump in quality from M5-M8 suggests Nownow000 is heading in the right direction.

Nownow500’s strive to be different does not go unnoticed; it simply lacks refinement. The strongest element on q is its aesthetic – the gritty electronica is both absorbing and well-articulated. With a greater focus on dynamics (specifically punchier lows), and more melody, Nownow000 could soar to great heights with his AI generated IDM; as long as there’s a human composer behind the generated pieces. Here’s hoping we see more of the artist behind the programming in future.
