Ken.dle – Enter a Title

Ken.dle is a rapper, who in his own words, lives “currently at your mother's house.” His humorous attitude makes him a pleasure to watch shill on /mu/, though his music is lacklustre in comparison to his visual aesthetic.

She and I is an incredibly simple vox-driven opener, sounding very bland compared to the piano present throughout the rest of the album. Foye [co-prod Eatfrommydinner] contains some dissonant pianos in an admirable fashion, but the beats sound overly conventional. The track is very reminiscent of Earl, lacking any personality of its own. I’ll Work is a great little piece that expands upon the pianos. Supper breaks the conventional rap format in an interesting manner, though is over-reliant on its piano loop to a fault. The piano interlude returns on Ulipsies; despite the different composition it feels like a repeated idea, but comfortably alluring. The final two tracks, A. and Garbage Bag are not bad tracks, they just feel heavily unrefined.

Irrespective of its short length, the album feels like it was made in a brief period of time. Ken.dle has a unique style but lacks production skills to make his work shine. Moreover, the beats are horrendously bland throughout, greatly holding the mixtape back. Ken.dle’s great piano skills are admirable, though; something he should certainly focus more on in future.
