End Of Days - Flower Children Of The Apocalypse

Psychedelic country rock doesn’t sound like a good combination, but it surely does on Flower Children Of The Apocalypse. Released on May 14th, 2022 by End Of Days was an enjoyable occultic treat.

There’s a commendable The Church vibe throughout the record, though especially Outrider. The songwriting is simple, but executed very tightly, à la the Growlers. Furthermore, there’s a smooth, chill vibe throughout the record, akin to the Volebeats. Even when the energy is high, such as during Moon Dog, it’s consistently cruisy. Their style perfectly suites the Tame-Impala-esque summer vibes on tracks such as Return To The Sun. Despite this, it works best when it leans into soft rock, such as during End of Days and the impeccable closer. Regardless, I wish the album leaned more into its psychedelic influences more. Often time it sounds like basic rock, losing points for innovation.

Flower Children Of The Apocalypse is as finely executed as its gorgeous cover. Both colourful and imaginative, the record leaves one yearning for more. Here’s hoping End of Days can take some bolder steps on their next release; I’m sure they’ll nail it.
