The Savage Young Taterbug -Shadow Of Marlboro Man

The Savage Young Taterbug is an alternative indie-psychedelic band from Los Angeles, California. Released independently in 2016, Shadow Of Marlboro Man was another solid effort in the artist’s discography. Despite being one of the artist’s most consistent releases, it was also much of the same.

The album opens with one of Savage Young Taterbug’s most harmoniously songs; unlike previous releases, it relies far less on samples and moreso on acoustic instrumentation. The result is quite lovely, as it is through the next track Taxi Fantasma. The next track, Victor The Vapor Rubber is also admirable, though without the excessive layering and expected sample-use, the track is resultingly boring. Nonetheless, the vocal delivery is quite impressive. Much could be said about the last two tracks, which are much of the same.

As with previous releases, the mood is consistently on point. Suffice to say, these tracks work lovely in the car on a long drive or as background music on a lazy afternoon. The more Taterbug one listen’s too, the more absorbed they become within the masterfully crafted world. Sadly, there’s no standout moment on Shadow Of Marlboro Man to recommend it over other releases; the lack of experimental noise is a shame. Buy it if you’re a fan.
