Lilith - Love Yourself

Lilith is an upcoming Soundcloud hyperpop/indieelectronica producer. Its execution may be inconsistent, but Lilith’s debut housed enough fresh ideas to differentiate itself from the competition. Released on 28th July 2021, Love Yourself delivered an impressive range of pieces that were all distinguishable and overflowing with ideas.

A Guide To The Light may have come with a high recommendation had it not been for the horrendous vocals mumbling over the top. The dazzling arps are paired-well with the fulfilling, harsh undertones, and catchy acoustic melodies. The progression is also  admirable. Witnessing The Decay delves further into the dream pop realm, to a commendable extent. Once again, the vocals ruin an otherwise intriguing space, though they are easy to forgive on said track. This is mostly due to the fact they are almost whispered in for the most part. Unfortunately, they are hard to forgive throughout the remaining EP, often plagueing any moment they appear. Nonetheless, the compositions are impressively strong. Trying So Hard (And Not at All) utilizes its space to an admirable extent, and Rainbow Energy Healing combines cloud rap and dissonant dream pop to a genuinely impressive extent. The closer may be disposable, but many tracks on Love Yourself are pleasantly creative.

Lilith is a strong artist who’s been too heavily influenced by Bladee, and thus a generation who believe sub-par vocals are acceptable. The Drain Gang pioneered a specific sound at the right time, but anyone who copies it is not only an imitator, but poorly influenced. Where Lilith rises above is in the composition department; his focus on noise is fascinating. If only the vocals were up to the same quality. If he can improve them with time, his success will be inevitable.
